Old Car City USA in White Georgia …

IMG_0026 Photogafers Paradise _ RTP _SFW _ Logo

We went to Atlanta this past weekend for Halloween.  I have seen this place on tv and have read about it in several photographer’s blogs and magazines and have always wanted to go.  Will knew where Old Car City USA is located ( White Georgia ) and off we went.  It was only twenty or so miles from where they live, straight up I-75.  Most of these junk yards are out in open fields, but this place is located among trees, so that in itself was nice.  To be honest with you, this is not something that I do very often and I cannot remember the last time I went to some old car junk yard and photographed.  I am sure that I have, but it has been years.  Being a people photographer, I was able to get a nice image of Fast Eddie playing the piano …

How is this for class?  A piano man at a junk yard … this is Fast Eddie and he serenades you as you enter the office / store.  At first I thought that it was the crazy uncle from Duck Dynasty, but no it is Fast Eddie and he has been playing piano for years at Old Car City USA.  Nice guy and a very talented piano player.  I am just going to go a head and post some images …

The rusted, old cars do not really do much for me … if you have seen one old car, you’ve seen them all.  The logos and emblems interest me more, so in another post I will show more of them.  The old Cadillac and Oldsmobile emblems get my interest and one more thing, they did not look like the above photos on the cars … the beauty of Photoshop.  Here is a link and the site says that their new theme song is out.  I am pretty sure that Fast Eddie the piano man has something to do with it.  So if you are ever in the vicinity of White Georgia, do yourself a favor and stop by Old Car City USA.  Let me know what you think … Frank

Old Lady on Horseback with Joel BG _ SFW

I worked this image up differently back in February.  I liked what I had done with the image, but I wanted to change the framing and the coloring just to give another feeling to the image.  My father made the original on Kodachrome back on a trip out West we took to visit his sister in Colorado.  I was only four or five when we took the trip, so I do not remember much about any of this.  I still am not finished with it though, so you will set it again in months to come.  I still cannot get over this lady and her son traveling across this desert ( for lack of any other description ) … not a tree, house, other individuals, water, etc, etc in site.  Could you picture seeing something like this today?  I am sure that there are a few areas like this in some parts of the West, but they are probably few and far between.  Here is the one that I initially created …

Narvaez Spain with Border and Matte _ SFW

I can not remember where this photo was taken in Spain, but I want to say Malaga.  This is just one of several that I created after I cleaned up the original image … I will post some others in the near future, but I have several from CHS that I am going to post in the next few days.  Thanks for looking … Frank

UPDATE:  Several people have commented on this photo and I am going to post the original image for a comparison.  I believe that I have posted it earlier with other photos from Spain and North Africa that I made back in 1972.  Here you are …

Yes … I know, I know.  How can you go from this to the other?  But it is very simple and only one word – Photoshop.  Now let me say this, it took me a long time to figure out the way to do it, but if I can figure it out, you can also.  Thanks for asking and for those of you really interested, let me know and I will be happy to tell you how it is done.  Please keep your comments and questions coming … Frank

Hank’s Seafood in Charleston …

IMG_1206 Hanks _ 10x8 _ SFW Hank’s is a restaurant in Charleston on Hayne Street, a block off of Market Street.  I am not going to bother posting a bunch of food shots, since I am not a food blogger … I am going to post a couple of the building that I thought looked interesting.  The first is one of the side of the building showing the sign …   IMG_1252 Hanks Sign _ RTP_SFW The next is one of my ” oil ” painting-type images … the original image was a drawing that someone had done in pencil and I took it and reworked it in Photoshop.  I use the ” smear ” tool in Photoshop to give it a painted looked, plus I run it through several other art filters that I have purchased for Photoshop.  Here you are …   IMG_5613 Hanks Seafood _ Adj _ 19 Jan 15 If you ever get to Charleston, you owe it to yourself to go to Hank’s for dinner … I put a link to their site earlier in the post.  I have some more of Charleston that I will post later, so that is all for now.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

North Georgia Vineyards … Revisited

IMG_9344 North Georgia Vinyards _ Lucis _ SFW

We went to Jenna’s earlier this year and took a day trip into the north Georgia vineyards.  It started to look like rain and I made this while everyone else was sitting around drinking wine.  It did not do much for me then, but after looking at it fo a while, I thought that I could do something with it.  I still might come along and add some more grass in the foreground to cover up the dead spots, but I thought that I would just through it up to see what type of response I get.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Ok … I reworked the above image some and I thought that I would just add it to this post instead of creating a whole new post.  All I did was come along and tried to add some new grass to portions of the foreground .  I also added some more branches to one of the trees in the background to fill it out more.  See if you can tell a difference …

Judge Roy Bean’s Cabin in Pecos, NM …

IMG_2564 Judge Roy Bean _SOOC _ SFW

The above photo is one that I made ten years ago out in Pecos, New Mexico.  I filed it away and and ran across it the other day and thought that I would do something with it.  Mainly, I wanted to show that with a little imagination and a lot of Photoshop, you can take what I would call a ” below average ” photo and turn it into something that is a lot more interesting than just the straight image.  Now I am not saying that it is going to win any awards, but it does have an interesting look that gets your attention …

IMG_2564 Judge Roy Bean Home_Best _ 3 Nov 14 _Matte 3 _SFW

The main change that I did was to run it through ” Lucis Art Filter ” to come up with the overall look and then alter the color and saturation.  There are a few more adjustments that I did, and if anyone is is interested let me know.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Re-Worked Images …

Lonesome Highway 1_SFW_9 9 14

This is the original scan of a 35mm Kodachrome transparency that my father had made back in 1954 or 55, on one of his trips out west to visit his sister.  She was an RN who worked in Los Angeles at the Cedars of Sinai Hospital.  I have no idea where this stretch of road is, but I have often wondered.  Sometime in the future I hope to do a photobook of his images from the trips that he made out west in the 1950’s and 60’s.  This is one that I titled ” Road To Nowhere “, however that can always change as usual for me.  I just thought it would make an interesting cover for a book.  Very seldom do I ever post the original scan … I just thought that I would for reference sake.  The next one is the re-worked  image where I have added a texture matte / screen to the image.  I still might change the color to make it look more like a tinted image.  The judge is still out on that one.  He is the re-worked image …

Lonesome Highway 1 _ Better_9 Sept 14 _Overlay _ SFW

The texture screen is very subtle and does not seem to show up that well once I resize and reduce the image quality for internet usage.  You do know that if you click on any of the images on this site ( or the ones over on my father’s site that I created ) that the image will open up on a new page by itself and I am fairly sure that you can enlarge the image.  This image should be over on my father’s photography blog that I have, but some people that I talk to do not know about the two.  There is a link to it on the right-hand side of the page, but apparently a lot of people either do not know about the link or do not want to click on the link not knowing where it might take them or to what kind of link it is.  I can understand that … I have started to print some of these images to get back into selling some.  It has been so long that I have sold anything off of either site  that I have almost stopped mentioning it altogether.  I have some other photos from Graceland, Memphis and North Mississippi that I have ready to go and will post in the near future.  Also, I have some casual senior girl images that I plan on posting just to remind the mother’s that I do all types of photography and not just head and shoulder photos for the yearbook etc.  Thanks for looking and please let me hear from you if you have any questions or comments … Frank
