Bridal 4 _RTP_ 8 April 14 _ SFW

These two portraits were created around thirty years ago down at First Baptist Church in downtown Pensacola.  I am embarrassed that I cannot place a name to this bride.  I did not have these images in a negative file because I had shot them on 120 FujiChrome, thinking that I might want to use them on a post card sometime to advertise my bridals.  So I just had them in my transparency files  with all of my other transparencies.  These were just made with available light … notice that I had positioned her if front of the stain-glass of the cross – that was the only area of the glass where the color coming through was the most natural / neutral daylight.  No flash was added to either image, which is unusual for me, since I believe most any image can use a ” touch of sparkle ” to the eyes.  I cannot tell you how many images that I see on photo blogs where the eyes are so dull and lifeless … even a reflector could direct some light into the subjects eyes.  I was looking at a local photographer’s blog post a high school senior recently and the girl had dark brown eyes and the lady photographer had not directed any light into the girl’s eyes and they looked lifeless.   Thirty years ago there were not all of the snoots and light modifiers  that are available today to focus light on a certain area.  If I had been back at the studio, I could have made something out of black paper that I kept around for that purpose.  I am really surprised that more people today do not create their own light modifiers instead of spending so much money on light shapers and benders.  I can remember going to photography programs back in the late ’70’s and early 80’s where the photographer teaching the class would hand out diagrams on how to build your own light box.  Then Larson, then Chimera and list goes on and on of companies that started building ” light boxes “.  Here is the other image …
