New and Miscellaneous Work ….

leave a comment »

I have not been posting much on these blogs since I post to Instagram.  I am at @frankphardy on Instagram for those of you that might be interested and see what I throw up on it.  I seem to attract more attention there that I have on this blog.  But I do not plan on getting rid of this blog since I have had it so long.  Here are a few new images and several that I have reworked. Enjoy …

I am sort of all over the place with these images from California to Ireland to Memphis to back to California and I started it off on Pensacola Beach.  Thanks for looking and please check back, I have some concert negatives that I have acquired from back in the 1960’s and 70’s that I plan to post in the near future.  Don’t forget to go to my Instagram feed … @frankphardy … and see my work there.  Feel free to comment and thanks for looking ….

Santa Barbara Mission …

leave a comment »

This photo of the Santa Barbara Mission was made back in 1915.  I have purchased several negatives of various missions through the years and have never done anything with them.  I have only been to the missions in Oceanside – Mission San Luis Rey –  and the one where Alfred Hitchcock made the movie “Vertigo”,  Mission San Juan Bautista.  There are twenty one missions in the state of California, so two down, nineteen more to go.  I thought that I had posted some photos already of these missions, but just going back through the last year or so it looks like I have not.  I made a good number of images at the Oceanside Mission and I must have only posted them on my Instagram account.  No idea who took this photo.  I just scanned the negative and did a little Photoshop work on the file just to clean it up a bit.  Here is a link to some information on Spanish Missions.

If you ever get a chance to travel to California, do yourself a favor and find a mission near where you are staying and go pay it a visit.  It is really amazing to read and see how these people lived back in the 1600 and 1700’s.   Thanks for visiting and feel free to comment if you have been here to the Santa Barbara Mission or any of the California Missions.

A Few More from California …

IMG_0287 Beverly Hills Palms_RTP_8 Feb 16 _SFW

I am going to show a few more from our trip out to Southern California at Christmas.  Above is a view of one of the streets in Beverly Hills.  This is a fairly average view and for all that you have heard about this area, it could be just any other neighborhood except every house that you see starts at over a million dollars.  And we did not see very many For Sale signs driving down the few streets that we drove down.  Next up are just a few more photos of palm trees … I know, if you have seen one palm tree photo, you have seen them all, but I am hoping to bring you a few more that you do not normally see without getting too abstract or weird.  Here we go …

IMG_0543 Circle of Palms_RTP_8 Feb 16 _ SFW

Same image, just presented two different ways.  The two palm trees were in the middle of the road outside of our hotel in Oceanside.  The photo was taken at sunset one afternoon and I was walking to a restaurant across the parking lot from the hotel.  I just took the image with my iPhone and then worked it up in Photoshop.  The bottom image was created in an app called Circular once I sent the corrected image back to my phone so I could post it on Instagram.  Talking of the app Circular, here is one more image taken on the flight back to Atlanta …

A little different view of the Delta wing outside of your window.  The next is just a building in downtown San Diego …

The only thing that I thought that was interesting is the sun’s reflection in the tower’s glass.  I have a lot more that I will most in the near future and I will put up some portraits, also.  Since I mentioned Instagram, here is a link to my Instagram account.  I have been posting a lot there, so that is the reason that I have not been posting much here or on the other blog where I post my father’s photography.  The main reason I like Instagram is that it is like a mini-photography portfolio.  People can go to my account on Instagram and see all of the types of photography that I do in one place.  I do not have a link to this blog, but I have a link to my father’s blog in the heading so if they are interested that can go check it out.  Sometime in the near future, I want to start offering these images as wall decor, but I have not promoted this site or the other site much in the past several years and plan on changing that soon.  I also am going to find a gallery to join somewhere to be able to have a space to hang some examples.  That is about it for now … please feel free to comment and ask any questions that you might have.  Also, go check on my Instagram link and let me know what you think.  I am going to leave you with the Hollywood sign … Thanks for looking … Frank

IMG_0005 Surfer_Thin Crop_4 Jan 16 _ SFW

I am just going to throw up a few photos from our trip and will go into details in a later post.  We spent eight days in Oceanside, north of San Diego visiting Lauren, Travis and Lukas.  Had a great time and went all over Southern California…Los Angeles to Palm Springs to Malibu to San Diego.  I have been spending more time posting my images to Instagram and have ignored my two blogs.  You can find me on Instagram at ” frankphardy ” if you are interested.  I use it more to post the above type of images and I do put up images that I post over on my father’s photography blog that I have.  Here are a few more SoCal photos …

IMG_0004 Malibu from South_RTP_5 Jan 16 _ SFW

The surfing photo was taken at Oceanside and the sailboat image was taken coming out the harbor in Oceanside.  The above photo is the start of Malibu, which was nothing really special to me … until you get to the million dollar beach homes.  I made some photos of the homes from the beach that I will post later, all I can say is “WOW ” … not that they are huge or elaborate, just expensive.  Here are several more …

The Pacific Ocean …. On Black and White Kodak Film …

Pebble Beach 5 _Flat_Lucis_19 Jan 15 _SFW

This was taken back in 2000 out at Pebble Beach California with a Hasselblad on Kodak TMax100 … there is a word that I have not used in a long time – Kodak.  It is hard for me to believe that there is no longer Kodak film for professional photographers.  If you would have told me that in 2015 you could no longer buy a roll of film from Kodak ( except on EBay … what’s EBay? ) back in 1985, I would say that you are crazy.  Back then, Kodak was the number one vendor at any photography trade show that you attended … their booth / display was front and center when you entered the trade show.  Every attendee to the trade show walked around with a yellow Kodak bag carrying all of their literature from all of the businesses in the trade show.  In fact, I wish that I still had one of those yellow Kodak plastic bags for old times sake.  I can remember when Ilford started giving Kodak a run for their money and photographers started walking around with those black and white Ilford bags.  Sorry, I did not mean to ramble on … Thanks for looking and I have a few more of these scans to post in the future … Frank

Calf Surfers 6_SFW_18 June 14 _ Logo

In an effort to try new techniques and stay fresh, I have been going back through some of my old black and white images and reworking them into some new pieces to show.  This is by no means the final image and I am sure that I will change it a half a dozen times before I find something that I like.  However, since I have not posted much lately, I thought that I would throw this up and see if I get any comments.  I have seen this ” posterized ” effect used in Photoshop, but never bothered to try anything with it.  I have so many b&w images that I have scanned through the years, I thought that I would  see what I could come up with.  Stay tuned and please check back … Frank

PS – This image was taken just south of San Francisco back in 2000.  We were driving down to Monterrey and had just turned on the Pacific Highway or whatever the road is called that skirts the Pacific Ocean.  We just came upon this parking lot and there were all of these surfers out in the water.  Shot with a Hasselblad and 50mm lens on TMAX 100 film.  I must have shot 20 rolls TMAX and have posted a lot of them already.

California Dreaming …

Back in 2000, Pam and I flew out to San Francisco for a week.  We drove down south to Monterrey and Carmel.  Then took a trip to Napa Valley.  This was before I went digital, so this is a scan from a Hasselblad b&w negative.  We found this area as we headed out of San Francisco, heading south on US 1.  Do not remember the name of the area, but the parking lot was full of cars and surfers.  I took several rolls of 120 and have never printed any, but I have scanned several.  When I find them, I will add them to this post later.  One of my New Year’s resolutions is to organize my  personal / professional files better and to catalog all the negatives of my father’s that I have accumulated and posted over at: .  I have a link on the side that will take you that and and you can see what I have put up there.  It has been up for almost two years and I have over 170 posts on the site.  I am really proud of my Photoshop “restoration” skills and what I have been able correct and fix.  Take a look over there and check back here, I am going to try and post images on a more regular basis that I have in the past.  Here is another photograph I made at the same time as the one above,

Thanks again for looking and if anyone recognizes where this spot is located, please let me know.
