Downtown Pensacola 1970’s …

downtown-pensacola-1970s-1-_5x4_rtp_15-sept-16_sfw

This is one of the better photos of downtown Pensacola from back in the 1970’s that I have.  Looking south down Palafox Street standing in the median just north of where Gregory Street crosses Palafox, you can see all of the way to the end where the old Municipal Auditorium used to be located.  The City bus transfer station is where the Martin Luther King Plaza located today.  And you also have a nice view of the San Carlos Hotel, which at the time this photo was taken ( 1972 ), was still open for business.  St Michael’s Catholic Church is just north of the hotel and I can remember going to the old hotel where the bride’s family would rent a suite for them to get dressed in, since St Michael’s did not have a reception hall or any accommodations for the bride to dress.  Times have changed …   Thanks for looking and please check back.  If anyone out there can remember getting dressed or assembling at the old San Carlos Hotel before a wedding at St Michael’s, I’d love to hear from you, so please feel free to comment.

Mick_5x5_RTP_30 June 16 _ SFW

Mick meets Andy … at least for me anyway.  Mick and the the Stones were playing at the LA Forum back in 1970 when this was taken.  I have a Pop Art app / program that I ran the image through after I had scanned a 35mm negative  I am able to change the colors in the program … I like the dark blue background and red Mick top left and I like the yellow Mick and light blue background on the bottom right.  The two green Micks need some work and I know that I will change them.  As I always say – Life is a work in progress!  I have a series of images that I have put together and plan on letting them meet “Andy” like old Mick here, not implying that Mick is old, but you know what I mean.  Let me hear your comments and thanks for looking … Frank

Pensacola Catholic High School Basketball …

Cheerleaders _10x10_RTP_6 April 16 _ SFW

Here are some photos that I took at a basketball game at Pensacola Catholic High School back in the late 1970’s.  The boys and girls basketball teams played Pensacola High School this night.  I cannot remember who won, but it was a good two games.  I thought that I would just start it off with one of the CHS cheerleaders and I will move on the the basketball games next.  Since I cannot remember anything about either game, I will omit the running commentary and just post the photos.  I will start with the girls and then post a few of the boys.  Enjoy …

There are other negatives in the envelope that I might clean-up and post later.  If anyone has any clue who any of the players are, please feel free to comment.  I want to say that these games were played in 1979, but I am probably wrong.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Some More From Spain …

Country Side Spain _ RTP _ 12 Feb 15 _ SFW Logo

These are from a trip my father and I took to Spain in 1972.  I am not sure of where this Spanish country-side is … maybe near Ronda only because it is hilly.  Here is a favorite of mine … the boy from out in the fields with his freshly cut hay that he did by hand.  Nice kid, I wonder where he is forty-three years later?

I have hundreds of these negatives that I ran across recently and I have been culling through to see what is in there.  I posted some others over on the site that I have for my father’s photography the other day that you might be interested in.  Here is a link to the post about Spain and Morocco over at the other blog.  I hope you enjoy these and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask and I will do what I can to go back into the old memory files and see what I can come up with.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Key West Sunset …

Keys Sunset 6 _ RTP _ 9 April 14 _ SFW

I have been going back in my files from the 1970’s and scanning these transparencies.  This sunset is looking west from Mallory Square back in 1977.  Back in these days, the circus atmosphere that goes on there now was not around.  It was just an old parking lot.  It is hard to see in this image, but there is a bird soaring overhead in the top of the frame.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Bayou Chico_Matted_SFW_16 April 13

The image above was taken at a marina that used to be located on the right-hand side of the road as you went across the old Bayou Chico draw bridge.  I made this photo back in 1975 and it was the first print that I had exhibited at the Florida Professional Photographers Convention back in 1976.  I put an orange matte around the image and I thought that really made the print.  The print came up for review at one of the conventions programs and one photographer asked what was so special about this image.  One of the judges who was present when the print was judged made the comment that the print only scored a 70, but the matte received a 90 and everyone got a big laugh out of his comment.  I told the judge this when I spoke to him about this print 30 years later and he remembered the print and the comment,  but did not know that I was the one that created the image.  We shared a big laugh and it was nice to know that he remembered the comment and the image.  Below is a photo taken on top of the Perdido Pass Bridge back in the late 1970’s …

I do not have anything really to say about this image, other than the fact it sure does not look like this now.  I was out this way delivering some photographs several weeks ago and now all you see are condos, a high-rise or two and a golf course, plus a slew of boat docks.   Back in the 1970’s was really just a sleepy fishing village … no longer!  Thanks for looking … I hope some of you out there remember these areas and what they used to be like … Frank

Boat House Reflection _ RTP_29 Mar 13

I have been busy with a lot of other work lately and I have not posted anything on this site this month, but I have scanned a lot of images ( like this one ) that I made thirty-five years or so ago.  I have been working on organizing my files and all the the images from the other site of my father’s blog that I have, but it has been overwhelming with the volume that I have.  None of this has been cataloged correctly and I have been working on this for some time now … but hopefully I will be able to put my hands on something when somebody asks in the future.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

PS – This reflection was taken at a boathouse on Bayou Chico back around 1975 or 76, after thinking about it, after I had written my post above.  And so I did not feel like taking the time to re-do the above post and just added this post-script.
