Bridal 4 _RTP_ 8 April 14 _ SFW

These two portraits were created around thirty years ago down at First Baptist Church in downtown Pensacola.  I am embarrassed that I cannot place a name to this bride.  I did not have these images in a negative file because I had shot them on 120 FujiChrome, thinking that I might want to use them on a post card sometime to advertise my bridals.  So I just had them in my transparency files  with all of my other transparencies.  These were just made with available light … notice that I had positioned her if front of the stain-glass of the cross – that was the only area of the glass where the color coming through was the most natural / neutral daylight.  No flash was added to either image, which is unusual for me, since I believe most any image can use a ” touch of sparkle ” to the eyes.  I cannot tell you how many images that I see on photo blogs where the eyes are so dull and lifeless … even a reflector could direct some light into the subjects eyes.  I was looking at a local photographer’s blog post a high school senior recently and the girl had dark brown eyes and the lady photographer had not directed any light into the girl’s eyes and they looked lifeless.   Thirty years ago there were not all of the snoots and light modifiers  that are available today to focus light on a certain area.  If I had been back at the studio, I could have made something out of black paper that I kept around for that purpose.  I am really surprised that more people today do not create their own light modifiers instead of spending so much money on light shapers and benders.  I can remember going to photography programs back in the late ’70’s and early 80’s where the photographer teaching the class would hand out diagrams on how to build your own light box.  Then Larson, then Chimera and list goes on and on of companies that started building ” light boxes “.  Here is the other image …

Beautiful girl, gorgeous gown … A monkey with a camera could create a nice portrait!  Thanks for looking and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them.  It is nice to know that someone out there is looking and is interested … Frank

Blay – Brown Wedding …

with 2 comments

Here are some more images from Allee’ and Kevin’s wedding from back in September 2013.  The wedding and reception was held at The Sacred Heart Cathedral on 12th Avenue in Pensacola.  Just Judy’s Flowers did a beautiful decorating the church and reception hall with flowers.  Judy does a fantastic job and she personally comes to make sure everything is perfect.  I can not tell you who the caterer was, but she did a fabulous job and the food was delicious … I will get back with a name for her shortly.  I am going to start off with the engagement photograph and the move to the ones made at the wedding.  My good friend, Bud Lovoy, helped me with this one and his help really makes these weddings run smoothly and with two of us, I am really proud how much we can do in a short period of time.  Here we go …

I do not usually put up so many photos, but I had a hard time narrowing it down to 10 or 12 images.  I have commented before about how ridiculous it is when other photographers post 50 and 60 images on their blogs.  And so many times it is not 50 or 60 different images, but 3 or 4 photos of the same view!  But that is another story.  I feel that the images selected here are a good representation of the type of images that I create at weddings.  If you have any questions or comments, please do no hesitate to either comment or contact me.  Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

Charleston Bridal in Oil …

Jenna_Oil Painting _SFW_5x7_1_23_14This is a bridal portrait I made of my daughter, Jenna, before her wedding in Charleston several years ago.  I am still working on these “oil” paintings in Photoshop, but I still have a long way to go.  The real test is how it looks printed on canvas, so we will have to wait and see.  Thanks for looking … Frank

On Red Sofa _ RTP 1 _ Color 2 _6x4 SFW_Logo

This is wedding of Natalie Quina and Trey Richburg that I helped my good friend Bud Lovoy   photograph that was held at the Barkley House in downtown Pensacola Florida.  The house is actually in an area called Seville Square that is run by the Historic Pensacola Village group.  The link above takes you to their site, so you can see all of the sites that they rent in the Historic Pensacola Village / Seville Square.  The photo above was taken in one of the rooms at the Barkley House,  the photos of the bride’s family and the groom’s family were made at the bride’s parent’s house in North Hill.  All of the rest were made at the grounds around the Barkley House.  It was a beautiful October afternoon, the weather was perfect, the food was fantastic, etc, etc.  I hope you enjoy …

Those twenty or so photographs are just a small fraction of all of the images that Bud and I created.  The link associated with Bud’s name above will take you to his site that displays his work.  Just scroll around until you find the folder that says either ” Quina Wedding ” or ” Natalie and Trey ” and click on it to see all of the photos that we created for their wedding.  If you have any questions or comments, either call me at 850-449-1279 or email me through this site, or you could contact Bud through his site.  It does not matter which, both of us are happy to do any thing that we can to help.

Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

A Few More Wedding Photos …

Here are a few more from the last wedding that I forgot to post.   Nothing in particular … just some that I had worked up and had them in a different folder.   I hope you enjoy:

One thing I rarely do is take photos of people walking … unless I am asked to.  It always surprises me how many people see me standing there with a camera and will not look at me , they just keep staring straight ahead.  Out of 12 or 14 people / couples that walked by me, this bridesmaid and maybe two other people actually looked at me and smiled …

What a difference a smile makes!!  I should have posted a few of the others, but I am not here to embarrass anyone … however several looked like they were walking to the gallows.  One from the ceremony …

Now, no better way to finish a post but with a  group of pretty girls dancing and having fun …

Wedding Photographs …

These photographs are from a wedding that I helped my good friend and fellow photographer Bud Lovoy photograph this past weekend out at Scenic Hills Country Club.  The bride’s family hired Bud, but I tagged along to carry his bags and decided to take a couple of photos, also.  The first one is what it looks like out of the camera and the second one is what I end up with after I have worked my magic in Photoshop.  Here we go …IMG_9898 Bride and Two_ OOC _ SFW

Not too good, huh.  Looks like a lot of the other photos I see on photographer’s blogs and such.   Not after a few waves of the magic ” Photoshop Wand ” …

Bride and Two_BG Extended_RTP_SFW

How many of you out there can tell a difference?  Only one or two?  Come on … there has to be more than that.  Here are some more and I am going to leave out the cheezy  comments …

I can never really understand why so many photographers will post 30 or 40, some even 60 or more photos, on their blogs and most are so repetitive that half or more could have been edited out!  I think you get the whole idea with a few images that this bride and groom had a great deal of fun and the wedding itself was FIRST CLASS without having to wade through 80 images to get the jest of everything.  Thanks again to Bud for letting  me carry his camera bag and the bride and groom’s parent’s for throwing a great party … I am going to leave you with this last one.  If it does not leave you with a smile on your face … there is something wrong!  Thanks again for looking and let me hear what you think … Frank
