Pensacola Beach Images …

with 2 comments

These photos are ones that I took out at Pensacola Beach from earlier this year.  I want to say that all were taken from the Pier out on the beach.  All have been posted on my Instagram account and several have been enhanced with a program called Plotagraph which adds motion to a still image.  In the image above, I was able to add motion to the waves so that they roll in and then recede. I will try to add several here in the next few days, but in the meantime here are some surfing photos …

And finally one I titled ” Heading In “…

I have been posting mostly to my Instagram account over the past few months, but I have not totally given up on my blog and I plan to get back into regularly posting to my two blogs shortly.  You can find me on Instagram at @frankhardyphoto or you can go to the search panel and just type in Frank Hardy Photography.  Thanks for looking and if you have any questions or comments, please let me hear them.

Delchamps in Downtown Pensacola …

delchamps-_5x4_-28-oct-16-_-rtp-_-sfw

This photograph of the Delchamps grocery store in downtown Pensacola at the corner of Garden and Baylen Streets was taken by photographer Charles Cottrell sometime around 1920 or so. My father worked at this store sometime in the late 1920’s or early 30’s.  His mother ran a boarding house on Garden Street where Gulf Winds Credit Union is today.  He also played for their basketball team and I have a group photo of the team over at the other blog I have, which is about my father’s photography.  The building is still there today, but it has been converted to office space and is a bank currently.  Look at all of the oil stains out front of the store … I guess pressure washers have not been invented when this photo was taken.  Also, you have to wonder the people’s drive ways looked like during this time since cars had only been in existence for twenty or thirty years when this was made.  This photo is part of archives at UWF in the basement of the library that is available for anyone to search through and download.

Which brings me to my next point, I have started to give some of my father’s negatives to Dean DeBolt and his staff for archiving.  If you read my blogs, I mentioned several years ago where I have given thousands of his negatives to the Pensacola Historical Society.  The Historical Society is now part of the UWF Historical Trust.  I went out and talked to them earlier in the week and gave them some negatives that my father had taken of Florida Governor Dan McCarty in Milton Florida back in 1952.  As time goes on, I am going to be donating more, so stay tuned.  Go check the UWF Archives and see all that they have.  I am adding a link for the site here.

Thanks for looking and as usual, all comments are welcomed and appreciated … Frank

Downtown Pensacola 1970’s …

downtown-pensacola-1970s-1-_5x4_rtp_15-sept-16_sfw

This is one of the better photos of downtown Pensacola from back in the 1970’s that I have.  Looking south down Palafox Street standing in the median just north of where Gregory Street crosses Palafox, you can see all of the way to the end where the old Municipal Auditorium used to be located.  The City bus transfer station is where the Martin Luther King Plaza located today.  And you also have a nice view of the San Carlos Hotel, which at the time this photo was taken ( 1972 ), was still open for business.  St Michael’s Catholic Church is just north of the hotel and I can remember going to the old hotel where the bride’s family would rent a suite for them to get dressed in, since St Michael’s did not have a reception hall or any accommodations for the bride to dress.  Times have changed …   Thanks for looking and please check back.  If anyone out there can remember getting dressed or assembling at the old San Carlos Hotel before a wedding at St Michael’s, I’d love to hear from you, so please feel free to comment.

Pensacola Catholic High School Basketball …

Cheerleaders _10x10_RTP_6 April 16 _ SFW

Here are some photos that I took at a basketball game at Pensacola Catholic High School back in the late 1970’s.  The boys and girls basketball teams played Pensacola High School this night.  I cannot remember who won, but it was a good two games.  I thought that I would just start it off with one of the CHS cheerleaders and I will move on the the basketball games next.  Since I cannot remember anything about either game, I will omit the running commentary and just post the photos.  I will start with the girls and then post a few of the boys.  Enjoy …

There are other negatives in the envelope that I might clean-up and post later.  If anyone has any clue who any of the players are, please feel free to comment.  I want to say that these games were played in 1979, but I am probably wrong.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Santa and Elves in Pensacola ,,,

IMG_0011 Santa and Elves_ SFW

Santa and his helper Elves just happened to drop into Chick-fil-A on Bayou Blvd yesterday.  Luckily, I just stumbled in with my camera to capture a few photos of the moment.  I have to say that it was lucky for Santa to have such cute and able helpers with him.  The Elf on the right was really great going around and gathering up kids to visit with Santa … she is really going to be a great “PR” Elf when she grows up.  No, that can not be right since elves never can grow up.  Here are a few more …

I hope that you did not notice holding the iPhone in the first photo … I retouched one other image with him holding it, but did not bother with that one.  I am hoping that all you are saying  how cute Santa’s ” little-helper’s” are and not even noticing what Santa is holding.  Thanks for looking and please check back.  Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas 2015 … Frank

The View from the Hilton on Pensacola Beach …

IMG_1993

This is a panorama taken on my iPhone from the fourth floor at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach this past Friday September 25, 2015.  I could not get over how many chairs and umbrellas were set out on the beach with hardly anyone there.  Maybe they knew something that I didn’t, but I am surprised at how deserted the beach is this time of year.  I realize that school is back in session, but with the rates going down after Labor Day, you would think that the beach could draw more of a crowd.  And I know that it is not for lack of trying with all of the money spent on ads by the different hotels, restaurants, chambers of commerce, etc, etc.  Well, it was nice while it lasted because the weather is going to be bad starting Monday.  I have not lost interest in my two blogs over the last several months … I have been posting to my Instagram account and have come across a lot of people that I would not have reached on my blogs.  I am busy with some other things and do not have much ready to post.  In the next few weeks I will have some new stuff to post that I hope will be of interest.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

One More Reagan Photo …

Reagan at Plane 4 _ RTP _ 2 Sept 15_SFW

It clearly looks that Reagan is enjoying himself as he works the crowd in Pensacola.  Look at the little boy that is stretching his hand out to Reagan … I am sure that Reagan shook it and I bet that kid did not wash his hand for a week.  I still have a few more of these that I will post later.  If anyone has any idea who this kid is, let me know.  Just email me who you think or know it is and I will give him one of these photos for his scrapbook.  I am sure that this kid ( I called him little Johnny in an earlier post ) is upset with our Iranian Nuclear Arms ” Deal “.  Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

PS – If anyone recognizes any of these people in any of these Reagan photos, please let me know. Thanks … 28 Oct 15
