Seattle and the San Juan Islands …

Greetings … I’ve been busy the last month or so and I missed posting anything in December.  In fact, that was the first month that I missed posting since I started this personal photography blog.  The above photo was taken on a trip to Seattle at the Pike Street Market last month.  I have a lot of images that I am shifting through and will post in the months to come.  Most are just a bunch of random “grab” shots that I thought looked interesting at time, but I know that I have a handful of award winners … that is joke, pitiful as it is.  This was my first trip to Washington and it is a beautiful area.  We really had a nice time, even though it was short.  Here are several more  …

This little church was at a winery on San Juan Island just up the road from Friday Harbor.  I cannot remember the name of the winery or the exact location, but it was only a few miles up the road from the actual harbor itself.  The last photo is of the Lime Kiln Lighthouse on San Juan Island.  It is located only a few miles from Roche Harbor …

This is just a tight crop of the entire image that I posted on my Instagram account.  The island in the background is Canada and I think that is the island that Victoria is on.  I plan on doing something more with this image … different crop, border, framing.  Not sure what at this point.  Thanks again for looking.  I have a lot of other random images from this trip and from the few days that we spent out on Pensacola Beach at Portofino.  Hope everyone had a safe and happy holidays, we did.  Looking forward to seeing what 2017 has in store. Stay safe and please check back … Frank

Santa Barbara Mission …

santa-barbara-mission-2-_-rtp-_-25-oct-16-_-sfw

This photo of the Santa Barbara Mission was made back in 1915.  I have purchased several negatives of various missions through the years and have never done anything with them.  I have only been to the missions in Oceanside – Mission San Luis Rey –  and the one where Alfred Hitchcock made the movie “Vertigo”,  Mission San Juan Bautista.  There are twenty one missions in the state of California, so two down, nineteen more to go.  I thought that I had posted some photos already of these missions, but just going back through the last year or so it looks like I have not.  I made a good number of images at the Oceanside Mission and I must have only posted them on my Instagram account.  No idea who took this photo.  I just scanned the negative and did a little Photoshop work on the file just to clean it up a bit.  Here is a link to some information on Spanish Missions.

If you ever get a chance to travel to California, do yourself a favor and find a mission near where you are staying and go pay it a visit.  It is really amazing to read and see how these people lived back in the 1600 and 1700’s.   Thanks for visiting and feel free to comment if you have been here to the Santa Barbara Mission or any of the California Missions.

Las Vegas …

Vogel Neg_Las Vegas_8x10_RTP_21 June 16_SFW

This is something that I would classify as  ” street ” photography. I did not take this image, but bought the negative off of EBay for a few dollars.  The negative looked clean and was taken back in the 1960’s, but more importantly it just looked interesting.  Nothing earth shattering here but there is a lot going on within the frame of the photo without anything actually happening and I do not consider a women walking out of a glass door in what looks to be a strip mall interesting.  I have bought a few of these type negatives the past few months  and I plan to share them with you in the future … I just had this one ready and I could put my hand on it easily.  I hope everyone is staying cool this summer, it is hot here in the Florida panhandle.  Like I have mentioned earlier, most of my attention has been on Instagram the past year and I have come into contact with a lot of people that I would not have met through my blogs .  I also plan on putting up a web site again in the future when I can figure out what I am trying to achieve and whom I am trying to reach.  My Instagram address ( for lack of knowing what Instagram calls it ) is – frankphardy .  I have over a thousand posts and I have only been serious it for a year.  I have combined my photography ( which is all over the place ) , my father’s images that I post on his site that I run ( a link is in the column to your right ) and the images that purchase from other photographers, EBay, etc.  When I do purchase a print or negative from someone I always work it up in Photoshop, clean it up, crop it, alter it some way, before I post it in a blog or Instagram.  Thanks for looking … if you ever went to this show or review back in the 1960’s in Las Vegas, I would love to hear from you.  Or if you just want to comment on the image, knock yourself out ( just figuratively ) … Frank.

Out West _5x4_RTP_26 April 16 _ SFW

Shot on 4×5 Kodak film years ago.  And this image is sharp.  I had forgotten about this image until I ran across it a week or so back.  I have others from this area that I am going to scan and work up to post.  I have been busy with other projects over the last few months and I have ignored my two blogs in favor of Instagram.  I have mentioned my Instagram before … frankphardy … and I do not plan on giving up on these blogs and will get back around to posting on them more in the future.  Thanks again for looking and please check back with me … Frank

A Few More from California …

IMG_0287 Beverly Hills Palms_RTP_8 Feb 16 _SFW

I am going to show a few more from our trip out to Southern California at Christmas.  Above is a view of one of the streets in Beverly Hills.  This is a fairly average view and for all that you have heard about this area, it could be just any other neighborhood except every house that you see starts at over a million dollars.  And we did not see very many For Sale signs driving down the few streets that we drove down.  Next up are just a few more photos of palm trees … I know, if you have seen one palm tree photo, you have seen them all, but I am hoping to bring you a few more that you do not normally see without getting too abstract or weird.  Here we go …

IMG_0543 Circle of Palms_RTP_8 Feb 16 _ SFW

Same image, just presented two different ways.  The two palm trees were in the middle of the road outside of our hotel in Oceanside.  The photo was taken at sunset one afternoon and I was walking to a restaurant across the parking lot from the hotel.  I just took the image with my iPhone and then worked it up in Photoshop.  The bottom image was created in an app called Circular once I sent the corrected image back to my phone so I could post it on Instagram.  Talking of the app Circular, here is one more image taken on the flight back to Atlanta …

A little different view of the Delta wing outside of your window.  The next is just a building in downtown San Diego …

The only thing that I thought that was interesting is the sun’s reflection in the tower’s glass.  I have a lot more that I will most in the near future and I will put up some portraits, also.  Since I mentioned Instagram, here is a link to my Instagram account.  I have been posting a lot there, so that is the reason that I have not been posting much here or on the other blog where I post my father’s photography.  The main reason I like Instagram is that it is like a mini-photography portfolio.  People can go to my account on Instagram and see all of the types of photography that I do in one place.  I do not have a link to this blog, but I have a link to my father’s blog in the heading so if they are interested that can go check it out.  Sometime in the near future, I want to start offering these images as wall decor, but I have not promoted this site or the other site much in the past several years and plan on changing that soon.  I also am going to find a gallery to join somewhere to be able to have a space to hang some examples.  That is about it for now … please feel free to comment and ask any questions that you might have.  Also, go check on my Instagram link and let me know what you think.  I am going to leave you with the Hollywood sign … Thanks for looking … Frank

Old Lady on Horseback with Joel BG _ SFW

I worked this image up differently back in February.  I liked what I had done with the image, but I wanted to change the framing and the coloring just to give another feeling to the image.  My father made the original on Kodachrome back on a trip out West we took to visit his sister in Colorado.  I was only four or five when we took the trip, so I do not remember much about any of this.  I still am not finished with it though, so you will set it again in months to come.  I still cannot get over this lady and her son traveling across this desert ( for lack of any other description ) … not a tree, house, other individuals, water, etc, etc in site.  Could you picture seeing something like this today?  I am sure that there are a few areas like this in some parts of the West, but they are probably few and far between.  Here is the one that I initially created …

IMG_9686 Home in Snow 1 _ RTP _ BW 2 _ SFW

Doesn’t this just want to make you move to South Dakota?  Not me … even though it looks like it might be fun for a few days.  Notice the animals way in the distance.  At least if they get out, it is not like they are going to get out on the highway and get hit or cause a wreck.  Next is one more of an old house in Charleston.  This was down several blocks from where we were staying … I still have a lot of variations of this place …

I very seldom use frames on my images and I have a accumulated a lot of them, along with textures, I have been seeing what I can come up that adds something a little different to these images.  The first image was taken by my friend Bud Lovoy and I made the second.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
