New Orleans Mardi Gras Parade 1907 …

This is the Rex Parade on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans back in the 1907 Mardi Gras celebration.  The theme for that year was ” Visions on Nations “, with each float being a different country.  I bought the original photograph from someone on Ebay and it was not in very good condition – stains, corners bent and torn, etc.  It took me several hours to get it to look like this, but I think that it is a pretty interesting image.  Parts of Canal Street look like the building on the near right side even today in 2016.  Times have really changed … I don’t see any of these parade goers screaming and waving their arms shouting ” Throw me something Mister! ” or whatever else they do now a days ( and I think you know what I mean … wink, wink ).  If anyone has any images of New Orleans from this time period, I would be interested in seeing what you have.  Thanks for looking and don’t forget that I post frequently and often to my Instagram ( frankphardy ) account.  Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving … ours was.  Please check back ….

Jackson Square 1_RTP 23_ 3 June 15 SFW

I have had an Instagram account for over a year, but have not done much with it until the past several weeks.  I have not abandoned my blogs … just trying to generate some new viewers for the blogs.  I have found that images like the one above seem to work better driving new viewers to my blog.  I have not posted this image on Instagram, since everything needs to be square to post.  This is obviously Jackson Square in New Orleans.  Here is a link to my Instagram account … I still do not bother with Facebook much, but I have linked both of my blogs to Facebook in hopes of attracting more viewers.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Cliff Dwellers 1_Tex Overlay_27 Nov 13_ SFW

This first image is one that my father made back in the mid-1950’s, that I had posted on my father’s blog a while back.  It was just a straight image that I had cleaned-up.  I just thought it was an interesting image … I am not exactly sure of where this is out West.  I think that I just titled it something like ” Cliff or Cave Dwellings “.  All I did was add a texture overlay and added a color-tint to the image  The image below is one that I made over in Jackson Square in the French Quarter thirty years or so ago.  I did the same thing, but I also added a selective blur to bring your focus back to the statue of Andrew Jackson.

New Orleans …

This photograph was made back in March with a plastic Holga camera on b&w film that I processed and scanned.  I have always liked the cyanotype prints, so I decided just to replicate it in Photoshop.  There is nothing special about this image and the image looks different from monitor to monitor.  That is the beauty about using the Holga … you never really know what you have gotten until you process the film.  The day I made this it was raining and dreary, but the scene was no where nearly as dark as it looks.  You get the feeling that it could have been made one hundred years ago and not just three months back.  All questions and comments are welcomed …
