Sunset 1_6x4 _RTP 2 _29 June 15 _ S F W

I have been trying to organize all of the slides that I have, along with my negatives and then I have all of my father’s negatives that I need to archive, so I have not been posting much on either of the blogs.  It is hard to believe that we are half way through 2015 already … Christmas will be here before we know it!  This year I hope to make an effort to sell my prints along with my father’s images of old Pensacola for Christmas gifts.  I have not sold any the past few years, but this year and for future years, I want to try to make an effort to sell prints.  If there is something that you are interested in and have questions, please contact me directly and I will be happy to discuss your needs.  Thanks for looking … Frank

Old Lady on Horseback with Joel BG _ SFW

I worked this image up differently back in February.  I liked what I had done with the image, but I wanted to change the framing and the coloring just to give another feeling to the image.  My father made the original on Kodachrome back on a trip out West we took to visit his sister in Colorado.  I was only four or five when we took the trip, so I do not remember much about any of this.  I still am not finished with it though, so you will set it again in months to come.  I still cannot get over this lady and her son traveling across this desert ( for lack of any other description ) … not a tree, house, other individuals, water, etc, etc in site.  Could you picture seeing something like this today?  I am sure that there are a few areas like this in some parts of the West, but they are probably few and far between.  Here is the one that I initially created …

Re-Worked Images …

Lonesome Highway 1_SFW_9 9 14

This is the original scan of a 35mm Kodachrome transparency that my father had made back in 1954 or 55, on one of his trips out west to visit his sister.  She was an RN who worked in Los Angeles at the Cedars of Sinai Hospital.  I have no idea where this stretch of road is, but I have often wondered.  Sometime in the future I hope to do a photobook of his images from the trips that he made out west in the 1950’s and 60’s.  This is one that I titled ” Road To Nowhere “, however that can always change as usual for me.  I just thought it would make an interesting cover for a book.  Very seldom do I ever post the original scan … I just thought that I would for reference sake.  The next one is the re-worked  image where I have added a texture matte / screen to the image.  I still might change the color to make it look more like a tinted image.  The judge is still out on that one.  He is the re-worked image …

The texture screen is very subtle and does not seem to show up that well once I resize and reduce the image quality for internet usage.  You do know that if you click on any of the images on this site ( or the ones over on my father’s site that I created ) that the image will open up on a new page by itself and I am fairly sure that you can enlarge the image.  This image should be over on my father’s photography blog that I have, but some people that I talk to do not know about the two.  There is a link to it on the right-hand side of the page, but apparently a lot of people either do not know about the link or do not want to click on the link not knowing where it might take them or to what kind of link it is.  I can understand that … I have started to print some of these images to get back into selling some.  It has been so long that I have sold anything off of either site  that I have almost stopped mentioning it altogether.  I have some other photos from Graceland, Memphis and North Mississippi that I have ready to go and will post in the near future.  Also, I have some casual senior girl images that I plan on posting just to remind the mother’s that I do all types of photography and not just head and shoulder photos for the yearbook etc.  Thanks for looking and please let me hear from you if you have any questions or comments … Frank

Mardi Gras 1980 Something …

Mardi Gras _ RTP _ 5_7_14 SFW

Not sure of the exact year that this image was taken at Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  That is the reason that I titled this 1980 something … I would guess that it was late in the 1980’s though.  I first went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans back in 1972 and it was really wide open back in those days … pretty much anything was allowed.  You could buy glass bottles of any drink that you wanted and most of that was Boone’s Farm Wine – Apple mostly.  I always thought that it was the worst thing I ever tasted, but I bet they went through a million bottles of the juice that year.  In fact, I do not know if that even make the stuff any more.  I always look at these images and wonder who these people could be and whatever happened to them, not that I knew any of these people.  I was always surprised what people would do whenever that had a camera pointed at them.  I guess that they where not worried that their parole or probation officer would ever run across any of their antics in print.  Thanks for looking and if you feel like sharing any of your Mardi Gras experiences ( that is fit for family reading ), please be my guest.  Please check back … Frank

PS – NO, this is not Gene Simmons and the original KISS guys … Or at least I hope not!!!

Key West Sunset …

Keys Sunset 6 _ RTP _ 9 April 14 _ SFW

I have been going back in my files from the 1970’s and scanning these transparencies.  This sunset is looking west from Mallory Square back in 1977.  Back in these days, the circus atmosphere that goes on there now was not around.  It was just an old parking lot.  It is hard to see in this image, but there is a bird soaring overhead in the top of the frame.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

South Florida Sunset …

South Florida 1977 _ 6x4_RTP _ SFW

South Florida sunset on Kodachrome back in 1977 on a trip to the Keys to go scuba diving.  I have been scanning some old transparencies from my father’s file and threw in a handful of mine while I was at it.  I have a lot of transparencies in file folders that I have been planning to scan, but just have not felt like taking the time to start.  It is not the process of scanning, but the arraigning, sorting and cataloging of all of the scans that is so overwhelming to me.  I also have been scanning 120 b&w negatives.  When I started scanning 4 or 5 years ago, so many of the scans were made at a small resolution … I did not realize that I needed to scan at a higher resolution and image size to get a better file for printing.  I know, I know … I should have known better, but at the time I was doing what I thought was correct.  However, I will say that I learn something new every day and it is not as bad as it sounds once you get going.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

Smoky Mountain Snow …

Smoky Mountain Snow Scene_SFW

I thought that I would post this image I photographed many, many, many years ago.  I have posted it before, but not with these Photoshop embellishments to the image.  The image was originally shot on Kodachrome 64 with a Nikon F3 ( which I still have, but seldom use … only when I need to copy something with a macro lens ).  This was taken at the crest of the Smoky Mountains on the way to the North Carolina side.  Just beyond the bathrooms is a road and it has this gate that you see above.  Not much to look at without any snow, you probably have seen it many times when you left the bathroom building and wondered what was beyond the gate, at least I have, but one time in the snow changed the scene entirely.  Thanks for looking and I hope you made it through the Big Chill of January 2014 … at least that is what the local weather people are calling it here in Pensacola / Milton / Bagdad.  Please check back … Frank
