Old Car City USA in White Georgia …

We went to Atlanta this past weekend for Halloween.  I have seen this place on tv and have read about it in several photographer’s blogs and magazines and have always wanted to go.  Will knew where Old Car City USA is located ( White Georgia ) and off we went.  It was only twenty or so miles from where they live, straight up I-75.  Most of these junk yards are out in open fields, but this place is located among trees, so that in itself was nice.  To be honest with you, this is not something that I do very often and I cannot remember the last time I went to some old car junk yard and photographed.  I am sure that I have, but it has been years.  Being a people photographer, I was able to get a nice image of Fast Eddie playing the piano …

How is this for class?  A piano man at a junk yard … this is Fast Eddie and he serenades you as you enter the office / store.  At first I thought that it was the crazy uncle from Duck Dynasty, but no it is Fast Eddie and he has been playing piano for years at Old Car City USA.  Nice guy and a very talented piano player.  I am just going to go a head and post some images …

The rusted, old cars do not really do much for me … if you have seen one old car, you’ve seen them all.  The logos and emblems interest me more, so in another post I will show more of them.  The old Cadillac and Oldsmobile emblems get my interest and one more thing, they did not look like the above photos on the cars … the beauty of Photoshop.  Here is a link and the site says that their new theme song is out.  I am pretty sure that Fast Eddie the piano man has something to do with it.  So if you are ever in the vicinity of White Georgia, do yourself a favor and stop by Old Car City USA.  Let me know what you think … Frank

Stanley Marsh 3 … RIP

Cadillac Ranch Upload _ SFW

Stanley Marsh 3 died this past week.  He was the man who created ” The Cadillac Ranch ” along I-40 outside of Amarillo Texas.  I made the above back in 2003 on a trip Pam and I took to Sedona  Arizona.  We had driven out on I-10 and I said that there was no way that I was going back the same way.  You would drive for miles and miles and miles and there would be absolutely nothing out your windows but flat land.  So when we left Sedona, we drove north to I-40 and headed east.  The view was a little better and there were some places along the way that we stopped … but those are for another time.  Pam spotted the Cadillacs and said that we just passed a row of cars buried nose down out in a field.  I turned around and went back.  It had rained and the field was muddy and the cars are buried several hundred yards from the service road.  She had no interest in walking out in the mud, so I grabbed my cameras and headed out.  I will have to find the original files and post them to give you an idea what I started with.  This is the first image that really showed me what you could create in Photoshop and how creative and powerful the program is.  Here  is a link to  Marsh’s obituary in the Amarillo  paper and the guy lead an interesting life.  His last few years were filled with controversy, but I guess that is another story, also.  Thanks for looking and I have some other posts ready to put up and I will over the next few days … Thanks for looking … Frank

Emerald Coast Photo Group …

leave a comment »

I have recently met photographer, Michael Smith, the owner of Studio One Pensacola , in downtown Pensacola on Intendencia Street.  If you are ever in need of a photography studio, he rents his place by the hour with a two hour minimum.  It is a first class space and he also has lightening equipment to rent.  But, that is not what this post is about … Michael runs a photo group / club called The Emerald Coast Photography Group and they sponsor various photo shoots in the area.  I attended one several weeks ago where a car club and a group of motorcycle enthusiasts show up for you to use their cars and motorcycles in your photographs.  You can bring your own models or their are several that are members of this club who are more than happy to have you take their photo.  It was a chance to meet and talk to fellow photographers … everyone was more than happy to share their knowledge and it was really a good time.  Below is one of the photographs that I created …

The car was a 1934 Ford Model T kit car that the owner had built himself and was happy to let photographers use it as a prop.  If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask, whether about the group, the studio … or even how I did the image above.  Michael / Studio One can be reached at 850-712-0639.  I have several other images from this day that I plan to post in the near future, so please check back.  Thanks for looking …
