New Orleans Mardi Gras Parade 1907 …

1907-mardi-gras-parade_4x5_-sfw

This is the Rex Parade on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans back in the 1907 Mardi Gras celebration.  The theme for that year was ” Visions on Nations “, with each float being a different country.  I bought the original photograph from someone on Ebay and it was not in very good condition – stains, corners bent and torn, etc.  It took me several hours to get it to look like this, but I think that it is a pretty interesting image.  Parts of Canal Street look like the building on the near right side even today in 2016.  Times have really changed … I don’t see any of these parade goers screaming and waving their arms shouting ” Throw me something Mister! ” or whatever else they do now a days ( and I think you know what I mean … wink, wink ).  If anyone has any images of New Orleans from this time period, I would be interested in seeing what you have.  Thanks for looking and don’t forget that I post frequently and often to my Instagram ( frankphardy ) account.  Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving … ours was.  Please check back ….

1964 World’s Fair in New York City …

Misc View _12x8_All Most Check Before Printing_16 July 16_SFW

In 1964, my father and I went to New York City for the Professional Photographer’s of America National Convention.  While we were there, we went to the World’s Fair that was held in Flushing Meadows.  Following are negatives that I found that I cleaned up and am posting.  Nothing great, but they are still interesting to view.  I made a comment on Instagram when I posted some that it is odd to see people walking around without a phone stuck to their ear and people are actually talking to one another… times have really changed!  I have a booklet somewhere that I still have on the World’s Fair, but I cannot put my hand on it now, so I do not have any description to go along with the photos.  The few that I do know I will post a comment.  Here we go …

The next image was taken in the Belgium Village that was constructed and the highlight there were the Belgium Waffles.  Incredible!! Never had anything like it before, granted I was only eleven years old, but it was delicious.  The waffle with fresh strawberrys, powdered sugar and whip creme … never saw anything like that in Pensacola!  They were so popular I think we had to wait in line for ten or fifteen minutes to buy one.  Sorry that it did not occur to me to take a photo of it, so you will have to use your imagination or google it …

And finally the Unisphere.  I purchased  a miniature of the Unisphere to bring home, which I still have, and I made a few photos of it earlier that I have posted.  I thought that I would also include one here …

If anyone went and would like to share their story, please feel free.  If you took a photo of your Belgian Waffle and feel like sharing it, I would love to see it.  That is one more thing that has changed since then … if it were not for food photos and coffee / drink photos, Instagram would have a billion or so less photos every day!  Thanks for looking and feel free to comment … Frank

Mick meets Andy … at least for me anyway.  Mick and the the Stones were playing at the LA Forum back in 1970 when this was taken.  I have a Pop Art app / program that I ran the image through after I had scanned a 35mm negative  I am able to change the colors in the program … I like the dark blue background and red Mick top left and I like the yellow Mick and light blue background on the bottom right.  The two green Micks need some work and I know that I will change them.  As I always say – Life is a work in progress!  I have a series of images that I have put together and plan on letting them meet “Andy” like old Mick here, not implying that Mick is old, but you know what I mean.  Let me hear your comments and thanks for looking … Frank

This is something that I would classify as  ” street ” photography. I did not take this image, but bought the negative off of EBay for a few dollars.  The negative looked clean and was taken back in the 1960’s, but more importantly it just looked interesting.  Nothing earth shattering here but there is a lot going on within the frame of the photo without anything actually happening and I do not consider a women walking out of a glass door in what looks to be a strip mall interesting.  I have bought a few of these type negatives the past few months  and I plan to share them with you in the future … I just had this one ready and I could put my hand on it easily.  I hope everyone is staying cool this summer, it is hot here in the Florida panhandle.  Like I have mentioned earlier, most of my attention has been on Instagram the past year and I have come into contact with a lot of people that I would not have met through my blogs .  I also plan on putting up a web site again in the future when I can figure out what I am trying to achieve and whom I am trying to reach.  My Instagram address ( for lack of knowing what Instagram calls it ) is – frankphardy .  I have over a thousand posts and I have only been serious it for a year.  I have combined my photography ( which is all over the place ) , my father’s images that I post on his site that I run ( a link is in the column to your right ) and the images that purchase from other photographers, EBay, etc.  When I do purchase a print or negative from someone I always work it up in Photoshop, clean it up, crop it, alter it some way, before I post it in a blog or Instagram.  Thanks for looking … if you ever went to this show or review back in the 1960’s in Las Vegas, I would love to hear from you.  Or if you just want to comment on the image, knock yourself out ( just figuratively ) … Frank.

Jackson Square 1_RTP 23_ 3 June 15 SFW

I have had an Instagram account for over a year, but have not done much with it until the past several weeks.  I have not abandoned my blogs … just trying to generate some new viewers for the blogs.  I have found that images like the one above seem to work better driving new viewers to my blog.  I have not posted this image on Instagram, since everything needs to be square to post.  This is obviously Jackson Square in New Orleans.  Here is a link to my Instagram account … I still do not bother with Facebook much, but I have linked both of my blogs to Facebook in hopes of attracting more viewers.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank

In my spare time I have been scanning some of the thousands of negatives that I have shot through the years.  Shot with a Hasselblad on b&w film outside of Havana Florida maybe 13 or 14 years ago.  Nothing really special, but at the time I thought that it looked interesting.  More to come and thanks for looking … Frank

Ronald Reagan Aboard Leadership 80 …

Reagan at Plane_Image Printed_11_WIP 3_7 May 15 copy_ SFW

In September 1980, Ronald Reagan made a stop at the Pensacola Regional Airport aboard Leadership 80.   I have posted a few images earlier of Reagan speaking at the podium speaking, but I had not posted any of boarding the plane to leave.  The reason was that I could not find the negatives.  Until yesterday.  I ran across them looking for some other negatives that I had misplaced.  It is only about 25 more negatives and they are nothing earth shattering … no Pulitzer Prize winners.  However, he still became President of the United States and he was in Pensacola, so that has to amount for something.  Right?  I cleaned these two negatives up and posted them as a teaser.  I know that there are a lot of people who loved him and these show him in a good mood and  to me, very favorable.  It is going to take me a while to get them all cleaned-up and ready to post.  Here is one more of the crowd around the plane …

I have enough images to get several posts out of all of the negatives and I hope to hear from some people that were there.  Not very many comments were received from the other post, so I am hoping that these will get a better response.  I am also going to post something on my other site and maybe that might get some more responses.  I do not believe that I did that with the other post.  It is going be a little before I get around to getting them ready to post, so please be patient.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
