Smoky Mountain Snow …

Smoky Mountain Snow Scene_SFW

I thought that I would post this image I photographed many, many, many years ago.  I have posted it before, but not with these Photoshop embellishments to the image.  The image was originally shot on Kodachrome 64 with a Nikon F3 ( which I still have, but seldom use … only when I need to copy something with a macro lens ).  This was taken at the crest of the Smoky Mountains on the way to the North Carolina side.  Just beyond the bathrooms is a road and it has this gate that you see above.  Not much to look at without any snow, you probably have seen it many times when you left the bathroom building and wondered what was beyond the gate, at least I have, but one time in the snow changed the scene entirely.  Thanks for looking and I hope you made it through the Big Chill of January 2014 … at least that is what the local weather people are calling it here in Pensacola / Milton / Bagdad.  Please check back … Frank

Smoky Mountains …

Stream 5 B _ RTP _ 1_28_14 _ SFW

These are some images that I shot in the Smoky Mountains years ago on 4×5 black and white Kodak film.  Looking at the image above, it is just an average photograph of a pretty  mountain stream … until you look closer and realize that you can see the bottom of stream in the foreground.  For me to exposure the stream’s bottom, so to speak, I had to blow out some of the highlights on the surface of the stream.  But I have never claimed to be on the level of Ansel Adams anyway.  Below is an image that I imagined as a panorama when I photographed it, so I made sure that the section of the scene that I was going to show was directly in the middle of the 4×5 film.  Since I was not using a panorama view camera, bit my 4×5 Sinar f2.   One thing that I have always done, even when I was shooting film, was shoot more scenes / views than I knew that I needed, since I would process the film and file them away to be printed later.  I cannot tell you how many albums of images that I have stored away for future use.  If anything, I have things into keep me busy for years into the future to work on.  Here is my panorama …

Smoky Mountain Stream _ B RTP 2_1_28_14 SFW

The next one is just an image that I found on the side of the road driving across the Smokys.  Nothing spectacular or magic, more serene than anything else.  Being a portrait photographer, I always feel that some of these images would look better with someone in them … the girl with the flowing dress holding a long stream of fabric.  Kind of generic, but I still those types of images and I think that a person ( pretty girl )  add something to a scene like these.  Another image …

Rocks 1 _ RTP_ 23 Oct 13_SFW

The last image is full frame, if you look closely you see the film notches in the top left of the frame.   One more from the top of old Smoky looking down into a valley … I cannot remember which valley or exactly where  …

Charleston Bridal in Oil …

Jenna_Oil Painting _SFW_5x7_1_23_14This is a bridal portrait I made of my daughter, Jenna, before her wedding in Charleston several years ago.  I am still working on these “oil” paintings in Photoshop, but I still have a long way to go.  The real test is how it looks printed on canvas, so we will have to wait and see.  Thanks for looking … Frank

On Red Sofa _ RTP 1 _ Color 2 _6x4 SFW_Logo

This is wedding of Natalie Quina and Trey Richburg that I helped my good friend Bud Lovoy   photograph that was held at the Barkley House in downtown Pensacola Florida.  The house is actually in an area called Seville Square that is run by the Historic Pensacola Village group.  The link above takes you to their site, so you can see all of the sites that they rent in the Historic Pensacola Village / Seville Square.  The photo above was taken in one of the rooms at the Barkley House,  the photos of the bride’s family and the groom’s family were made at the bride’s parent’s house in North Hill.  All of the rest were made at the grounds around the Barkley House.  It was a beautiful October afternoon, the weather was perfect, the food was fantastic, etc, etc.  I hope you enjoy …

Those twenty or so photographs are just a small fraction of all of the images that Bud and I created.  The link associated with Bud’s name above will take you to his site that displays his work.  Just scroll around until you find the folder that says either ” Quina Wedding ” or ” Natalie and Trey ” and click on it to see all of the photos that we created for their wedding.  If you have any questions or comments, either call me at 850-449-1279 or email me through this site, or you could contact Bud through his site.  It does not matter which, both of us are happy to do any thing that we can to help.

Thanks again for looking and please check back … Frank

Guest Blogger over on ” Airports Made Simple ” …

Eastern Jet 2 _ RTP_ 1_21_14 _ SFW

Greetings and Happy New Year … A little late but well intended.  I just wanted to mention that I was asked by Deborah who writes the blog about airlines, travel and airports … Airports Made Simple … to be a guest blogger for her site.  She saw my posts about the Pensacola Airport in the 1950’s and some of the celebrities that flew in over at the blog that I have on my father’s photography …FrankHardyMadeMyPhotographsTWO .   She has been very gracious and more than willing to help an amateur like me compose a readable post that readers would enjoy reading.  Thank goodness she did not just cut and paste what I initially emailed … I would have single-handily cut her readership in half.  But no, she sweated and labored and tailored a very enjoyable post about Liberace and included photos that my father had made of him and his guests / friends flying into Pensacola.  She even started the post with a quote from CS Lewis that really tied the whole post together.  I wish I could claim to be that intellectual, but those who know me would or could not be fooled.  So please click on the link that I provided above to her site and see how entertaining and informative her site is for air travelers.  And if you feel so inclined, please leave a comment that you were directed there from here.  I am sure she would appreciate the comment and I guarantee that you will learn something that will help you out in the future.  Thanks for looking and please check back … I promise that I am going to get those weddings up shortly … Frank

Composite From Father’s Photographs …

Dads Composite 1 _10x8_3 Jan 14 SFW

Here is the composite that I created from my father’s photographs.  I am not sure how many there are, but as usual, the hardest part was selecting the ones to include.  I want to do another for my  site because the one I created only had around 60 images.  I have thought about doing one just for weddings and I think that I will do it next, since I have so many of those to select from.  But as usual, I will not know until I start.  Thanks for looking and let me know what you think about these composites. IMG_4082 Cowboy Hands_2 _ Oil 2_Blur_Border

Another one of my Photoshop paintings … I named this one ” Tex “.  Actually, it was taken at a rodeo Pam and I went to in Chumuckla several years ago.  I have been trying to organize one of my hard drives and I thought this might lend itself to this style that I have been creating lately.  I have several weddings that I photographed recently and I want to throw them up in the next week or so.  I hope everyone had a safe and happy December / Holiday Season for 2013.  Thanks for looking and please check back … Frank
