Bridal Show at Tiger Point …

leave a comment »

This past Sunday, Bud Lovoy and I participated in a bridal show held at Tiger Point Country Club, which sponsored the event.  The tables above were created by Marry Me Weddings located in Cordova Square and the cakes were from Publix in Gulf Breeze.  Below is a view of our set-up …  this was the first time in many, many years that I have attended a bridal show and I had forgotten how nice it is to see everyone.  Another show was scheduled on Tuesday at Scenic Hills  and I will post some photos from it in the next few days.

Thanks for looking, Frank.

Hardy Grand Kids …

This is Jenna and Will’s little girl, Payton, under the Christmas tree.  She is seven months old here.  Below are several more made on Christmas morning …

She sure loved that wrapping paper.  Below are several of Lauren and Kelsey’s little boy, Lukas.  When it started snowing on Christmas day up in Atlanta, we could not get him inside the whole day, well for very long anyway.  We were surprised that he did not come down with anything, just another day for him.

The last photo is of a snow man that Lukas made … when I first saw it I thought he was trying to make an alien, because the celery, broccoli and sweet potato for a hair piece was all that Pam could find to give him to decorate his snow man.  He was sure proud of his snow man!

This was the first time that I can ever remember having it snow on Christmas day … all I can say is that a little of it goes a long way!  I have never lived in snow and at this point of my life, I sure hope I never have to.  It is pretty when it is coming down, but after that, you can have it.  But once you get used to it, I am sure you learn to make adjustments … the thing that was so hard for me was being stuck in side all day.  All I can say … Hello Florida!!

Gallery Night at Vic and Ike’s …

This coming Friday, 28 Jan, I will be back down at Vic and Ike’s restaurant on Palafox Street across from the Post Office in downtown Pensacola.  Gallery Night really brings the crowds out and I have seen a lot of people that I have not seen in years.   Nick and Claire have used  used these old photos to decorate their establishment and there are around 25 or so images framed and hanging on walls.  The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is friendly and memories of old Pensacola are on the walls, so drop in and say hello this Friday night.  Thanks for looking …

Winona School …

These two images were made by my father when he attended the Winona School of Photography in Indiana back in the 1950’s.  The Professional Photographers of America ( PPofA ) held a school at Winona Lake several times during the year and it was taught by several Master’s of Photography.  I ran across these negatives that my dad made in the class and thought they were interesting … very few photographers today are aware of the equipment that was available sixty years ago.  You have to remember that strobe equipment was only a few years old and color paper was still five to seven years out … I do not think that my dad started photographing in color on a full time basis until the mid 1960’s.  Kodak never started guaranteeing the permanence of their color process until the 1970’s.  The PPofA closed Winona and moved the school to their office in Des Plains, IL in the 1980’s and I was fortunate to go and spend a week taking a class in commercial photography.

The Computer Age …

I have been going through my negative and transparency files the last several weeks trying to organize them into categories and I have come across some that I thought would be interesting to see how far we have come in the last 30 years or so.  This image was taken for the ECUA annual report back in the mid 1980’s.  Even though this does not look too impressive, it took me a box of Polaroids  to get the exposure balanced for the strobes that illuminated the people and  the image on the monitor.  This was ten years before Photoshop was created, so everything had to be done “in camera”.  When they approached me about photographing this, they told me that they had entered the “computer age” and had I ever photographed one before.  I said that I had photographed all types of machinery and equipment before, so this could not be any different … what I had not considered was the image on the screen, I thought they just wanted to show the case.  As the old saying goes, ” If you can’t shoot them good, shoot a lot”, along with Polaroid film, saved the day for me.

California Dreaming …

Back in 2000, Pam and I flew out to San Francisco for a week.  We drove down south to Monterrey and Carmel.  Then took a trip to Napa Valley.  This was before I went digital, so this is a scan from a Hasselblad b&w negative.  We found this area as we headed out of San Francisco, heading south on US 1.  Do not remember the name of the area, but the parking lot was full of cars and surfers.  I took several rolls of 120 and have never printed any, but I have scanned several.  When I find them, I will add them to this post later.  One of my New Year’s resolutions is to organize my  personal / professional files better and to catalog all the negatives of my father’s that I have accumulated and posted over at:  FrankHardyMadeMyPhotographs.com .  I have a link on the side that will take you that and and you can see what I have put up there.  It has been up for almost two years and I have over 170 posts on the site.  I am really proud of my Photoshop “restoration” skills and what I have been able correct and fix.  Take a look over there and check back here, I am going to try and post images on a more regular basis that I have in the past.  Here is another photograph I made at the same time as the one above,

Thanks again for looking and if anyone recognizes where this spot is located, please let me know.
